4. Warlock – Chaos Bolt (Cataclysm)

In Cataclysm, Destruction Warlocks could fire Chaos Bolts that ignored all resistances and mitigation. Warlocks were also able to two-shot many players and had solid crowd control thanks to PvP trinket stacking and procs.

Why it was broken: Armor-piercing, guaranteed crit burst.

Spec: Destruction Warlock.

5. Fury Warrior – Titan’s Grip (WotLK)

When Titan’s Grip was given to Fury Warriors, they were able to dual wield twohanders. In PvE, this meant massive DPS potential. With strong gear, Warriors were able to top meters and melt raid bosses.

Why it was broken: Two 2H weapons = absurd burst and cleave.

Spec: Fury Warrior.

Outcome: Balanced over time, but defined WotLK melee DPS.

6. Mage – Deep Freeze Combo (WotLK – Cata)

Frost Mages were known for locking players down indefinitely using Frost Nova, Frostbolt,  Deep Freeze, and Ice Lance combos. With the ability to kite and control while bursting, Mages became PvP nightmares.

Why it was broken: Perma-CC with high burst.

Spec: Frost Mage.

Impact: Shaped arena metas for multiple expansions.

7. Monk – Touch of Death (MoP)

Windwalker Monks were introduced in Mists of Pandaria with the Touch of Death that would instantly kill enemies under a certain health threshold. With their mobility and burst, Monks became PvP terrors.

Why it was broken: Instant kill mechanics with low setup.

Spec: Windwalker Monk.

Fixes: The ability was tuned over time with stricter requirements.

8. Demon Hunter – Fel Barrage (Legion Launch)

Brand new and flashy, Demon Hunters in Legion launched with Fel Barrage, an AoE burst skill that could clear waves of mobs instantly and devastate PvP teams. It had low cooldown and high uptime, making it nearly spammable.

10. Discipline Priest – Atonement Healing (Legion)

Atonement introduced a healing system to Discipline Priests which enabled them to provide healing support by dealing damage to enemies. The team could achieve maximum efficiency in Mythic+ and raid activities by focusing exclusively on offensive strategies during  coordinated operations.

The reason for this balance issue was that damage dealt directly converted into healing with no negative consequences.
